Merry Riana & LG Optimus 7

Many good things happened to me this year. Month after month,  I continue to receive great news. One of the most unforgettable ones is when I received a message saying that I was selected as the LG Life’s Good Ambassador.

The Making of LG's Video

Went for a video shoot for LG early this month. Mine was the earliest slot, and I had to be at Raffles Place by 9.30am. Luckily during that time the place wasn't so crowded. I had a lot of fun smiling and acting in front of the camera.

Here are some moments captured:

And Here’s the final video

LG Optimus 7 Press Conference

I was also invited to attend LG’s Press Conference (12th October 2010). It was a full house event. This was a special event because that’s the day when LG announced the Singapore launch of its first Windows Phone 7 devices, LG Optimus 7.

In conjunction with the LG Optimus 7 campaign, LG has appointed 7 personalities to be the LG Advocates and  also 7 other personalities to be their e-Fluencers. I am proud to be one of the 7 e-Fluencers.

Me & My LG Optimus 7

I received my LG Optimus 7 on the 15th October 2010. So happy to be one of the first few in Asia who own this cool phone. :)

3 things that I did to start my journey with my new LG Optimus 7

1. Went to StarHub to get a new line and new data plan

IMG_7886

2. Read the manual (it's very small, and yet it contains EVERYTHING that I need to know)

IMG_7885

3. Downloaded and installed Zune software from www.windowsphone.com to sync my LG phone with my laptop.

 Download Zune

After that, I can fully utilized my LG Optimus 7.

I have been using the phone for the past 12 days and I would say it is a really great phone. I love the fact that it helps me to stay connected while on-the-move. At the same time it is so easy to use. To be honest, I’m not so much a technology-savvy kind of person, so simplicity is good!

LG Life's Good - Merry Riana

With my new Optimus 7, I can do more things in fewer steps!

There are 7 things that I love most about my LG Optimus 7. In this post, I’ll share 2 first, and I’ll continue with the rest in my other entries:

1.       Panorama Shot

Super easy to use, all you need to do is just to activate the mode. Once you’ve done so, you just need to press the shutter button once to take the first image. From there, you're guided by a color-coded box as to show you where the next frame is supposed to be, and, once in position, it automatically snaps the picture for you. That goes on until you put together five frames. After that LG will then stitched the images together automatically.  It's so simple! Here’s the photo that I took while attending the Burgundy Private Launch Party at Wisma Atria last week

LG Panorama Shot

2.       Scan Search

I called this a ‘Reality Camera’. It has the ability to show the nearest conveniences like coffee shops, banks, pharmacies, and hospitals onto a live video feed from my camera.

Here’s how it looks like.

First, choose what you want to search, i.e. Restaurant.

IMG_7850

Then, just point your LG camera to any direction and the nearest restaurant within the range specified will be shown automatically.

IMG_7847

You can also search other things, i.e. Bank.

Do the same thing and this time, the nearest bank will be shown automatically too.

 IMG_7858

Now guess what happened when you point the camera to the sky?

 IMG_7863

It will give you the weather updates. So Cool, right !! :)

I must confess that I am addicted to this function, everywhere I go, I'm always 'Scan-Searching'

IMG_7871

I'm sure when you own this phone, you'll definitely do the same thing like I do too. :)

So far LG Optimus 7 has been really useful. One night, I was in the car along Orchard Road. My hubby was driving, while I was playing with my Scan Search Application. Suddenly, one of my favorite restaurants popped up. I thought this restaurant has closed down long ago, so I was surprised when it showed up on my LG. Since there was a phone number and an address attached to it, I immediately called them. Turned out the restaurant is still open, and that is the only outlet that was left (the rest of the branches closed down already). What a surprise!

So guess where I had my dinner that day?

IMG_7825

Yup! In my Favorite Indonesian Restaurant. Thanks to LG ! :)

Must Watch Video – Miss Universe 2010 Contestants !!

I turn on my laptop and about to write my blog, and accidentally I come across this very interesting interview about Miss Universe 2010. So I decided to post about it instead.

Fullscreen capture 290810 11414 PM

This impromptu video interview is done for all the Miss Universe 2010 Finalist. And I've listed down some of our fellow ASIAN Contestants. Here it is …

From Indonesia

From Singapore

From Thailand

From Japan

From Korea

From China

Although the way their answer the question might not be perfect, but I still salute them for still being able to represent their country at the Miss Universe 2010. It's definitely not easy to be interviewed with such impromptu questions like that, especially knowing that for some of them, English is not their everyday language.

So for that I've decided to comment for every good thing that I saw in them.

Here's what I like the best:

Miss Indonesia: Love the way you imitate the sound effect. You are very creative and animated. Hahaha .. :)

Miss Singapore: Smart answer and no singlish :)

Miss Thailand: Best gift received so far? "Miss Thailand Universe". Great Answer!

Miss Japan: Wow! you really speak very well. Confident, Elegant, and yet still Friendly.

Miss Korea: Love your answer about your worst date. It's so funny :) And you are really beautiful.

Miss China: So young!  you are only 19 and yet you already went so far. Can see that you really like to smile a lot.

Just For Laugh

My husband shared with me these interesting short stories. So I thought of sharing it with you too.

WIFE VS. HUSBAND

A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position. As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, "Relatives of yours?" "Yep," the wife replied, "in-laws."

W O R D S

A husband read an article to his wife about how many words women use a day…  30,000 to a man's 15,000. The wife replied, "The reason has to be because we have to repeat everything to men… The husband then turned to his wife and asked, "What?"

CREATION

A man said to his wife one day, "I don't know how you can be so stupid and so beautiful all at the same time." The wife responded, "Allow me to explain. God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me stupid so I would be attracted to you!"

THE SILENT TREATMENT

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM." He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up." Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests. God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece.

For many guys out there who read this, Don't get offended okie :)  just for laugh.

Also, on the other note, sometimes, it's not about who is right or who is wrong, or  who is better than the other.

Man and woman are just different. And I personally think there is a purpose why God created man and woman differently, i.e. to compliment each other.

Merry Riana & Elim Chew
Words cannot describe how happy I was when I met Elim Chew today.

I believe Elim Chew is someone who doesn’t need any more introduction. She is a very well known figure in the entrepreneurial world, at the same time she is in the hearts of many young Singaporeans.

Her business, 77th Street is an iconic street wear retail fashion chain in Singapore, dealing with the hip and trendy youth culture of today. In addition to expanding her retail businesses, Elim lends her expertise, experience and time to various youth organisations in Singapore.   Elim’s accolades include being named Most Promising Woman Entrepreneur awarded by The Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME) in 2001, Mont Blanc Businesswomen Award in 2002, Young Woman Achiever Award awarded by Her World and Leadership and Mentoring Award awarded by Research Communications International in 2003. And the list goes on…

I actually met her couple of times in many other occasions, but today was more special because she revealed more of her success stories through an audio interview with me.

Merry Riana & Elim Chew

Not many of us know that Elim, the icon in fashion industry, initially started her career as a hairdresser. Having passion about streetwear, she then started opening a small retail shop at Far East Plaza. It was just a 180 square feet space, but from there it eventually grow to a multi-million dollar business. She shared how does being flexible really help her a lot when she first started her business. She said: “Entrepreneurship is about experience”

How does Elim came with the name 77th Street? Is 7 her lucky number? Or was there really a street name 77th Street?

What is the secret to her success? What are the advantage of being a woman in a business world? And what are the disadvantage?

She also said that many young people wanted to start their own business, but eventually they failed because most of them don’t really have a proper plan. But besides good planning, what are the other factor that need to consider when setting up a business?

All of the above questions will be answered in my audio interview with her. I will definitely update you guys again when is up. (Apparently there were a limit on the size of the audio file that I can upload. I’m still in the midst of sorting it) To sum up, it was a wonderful experience chatting with her. Even after we finished with the whole interview, we still chat about many things, about our life, our faith, work, etc. She even bring me over to her warehouse (which is huge !) and tour around her office. She has snooker tables and Nintendo wii at her office too. So cool !

Thank you, Elim ! Will definitely visit 77th street @ Ion Basement Level 3 (B3-45/46) after the Female 50 Gorgeous Preview this Saturday :)

How dependend are you with your handphone ?
This weekend there is a huge IT fair in Singapore.

Actually it is not a once – a – year kind of event. I think every 3-4 months, there's always this event, but what amazed me is that every single time, there are always thousands of people flooding the area. Most sellable items normally are: plasma TV, laptop, printer, digital camera and handphone.

I guess nowdays those gadgets are no longer become a luxurious items, but it is already becoming a necessity. Especially handphone. From primary school students to grandpa and grandma, they all have it.

But how important handphone to you? Find out from the questionnaire below

a. Almost zero
b. 1 – 4 calls
c. More than 5 calls

3. Your ring tone is:

a. Every different person in your handphone, you'll assigned in with different ring tone

c. Not important to have a ring tone

a. In your pocket. Vibrate mode so that it won’t disturb your conversation
b. Why need to bring handphone when your friends are already with you.
c. Obviously on top of the table. So when someone call, you’ll know immediately (also can show off to your friend about your handphone)

Score:
1. a = 3, b = 2, c = 1
2. a = 1, b = 2, c = 3
3. a = 3, b = 2, c = 1
4. a = 1, b = 2, c = 3
5. a = 3, b = 1, c = 2
6. a = 1, b = 2, c = 3
7. a = 3, b = 1, c = 2

Description:

8 – 12
You think that your handphone disturb you. I know it is a bit annoying when you are in the middle of doing something important, then out of sudden you received a phone call from a stranger. But whether you realize or not, handphone is a really important device, especially during emergency. So don’t treat your handphone as your enemy.

13-18
Handphone definitely play and important role in your life. And you manage to balance it well. You use it to help you still be accessible, and at the same time you also still keep your handphone up to date with the current model, and of course all these are done within your budget.

19-24
You really crazy about your handphone. To you, handphone is not only a communication device, but also a tool that you can use to show off. And feel good about it. You feel that you must always have the latest model regardless whether you can afford it or not. Actually, if your handphone is still in a good condition, there’s no harm for you to continue using it. And the extra money that you have, you can use it to buy other things.

Whichever your score is, to me as long as you are not using your blackberry as an earrings like the picture below, I think you are still normal :)

How good is your English ?

Went for a speak clearly – articulate it right workshop today.
Very interesting ! Learn more about Phonics, Phonetics, Articulation, Pronunciation & Enunciation.

Apparently not many people really bother to speak good English nowdays.
How often do we hear of "udders" (others), "wif" (with), "di-yar" (their) and "tree" (three) ?
Those are just some example.

Even worse, I came across this article.
It said that Singapore McDonald often hire a lot of senior citizens as counter staff, many of them are not very proficient in English. So sometime we must pronounce it in the following way so that the auntie-auntie can understand it.

Mc.Donald's (Meh Donner)
Happy Meal (Hair Pee Mew)

……

To make it more interesting and fun, why don't I type the way they pronounce it and see how many of these words you can guess correctly.

1. Flench Fly
2. Feese Burger
3. Mus-sloom Burger
4. Meh Narget
5. Bee Blare Fers
6. Or Leng Joo
7. Apper Pai
8. Whore Cakes
9. Up Sai
10. Kon Kap

…..

And here are the actual words

1. French Fries
2. Fillet O Fish
3. Mushroom Burger
4. Mc. Nugget
5. Big Breakfast
6. Orange Juice
7. Apple Pie
8. Hot Cakes
9. Up size
10. Corn Cup

Interesting right? :)

Having said that I'm not saying that I speak perfect English. Definitely not.
But I am a person who believe in continuous learning. As long as there is room for improvement, I will do my best to make it better.

I remember those days when I first came to Singapore. I can't really speak English properly. And in fact I failed my English test, so I have to take English Proficiency class for 1 year.
And because I can't really speak English correctly, I tend to mingle around with my fellow Indonesian students and speak Bahasa with them, which turns out it make my English even worse. So the only thing that I can do to improve it was to Practice, Practice and Practice. And I was finally able to overcome it.

Now, it's important not only to speak English fluently, but to articulate it correctly also.
Here's my favorite video about the importance of speaking good English.

Not easy. But practice make perfect!

Do I look like below 21 ?

Just came back from Movie not long ago.

You guys won't believe what I experienced today at the cinema. I handed over my ticket and about to walk to the cinema hall, suddenly the ticket-guy stopped me. He wanted to check my identity card to check whether am I above 21? Hahaha… I was flattered. Do I look like I am below 21 years old? :) Thank you for the compliment ! :)

Anyway, as female, we always feel happy if people thought we look younger than our actually age. Am I right, Girl? :)

So how can we able to achieve that?
Well, one of the way is to do regular exercise.

Speaking about exercise, it reminds me of 1 particular video that I find very funny.
Again, it's another Thai production. This time they are actually promoting daily exercise.
You have to really see it for yourself:

I personally like the 2nd one :)

Also, just to update you that I'm so happy that my new website is about 75% done.
Hopefully everything will be finished by September :)
I really can't wait to launch it. I believe you guys gonna like it very much.

In the mean time, enjoy your weekend ! :)
